Reviews
We stayed there for 2 nights. The location of the hotel is very good, in the city centre. The rooms are large enough. Some of them have balcony. In general clean, the beds are comfortable. Also the nice view over the river. The bad things are: no parking space was available when we visited and we left our car at public parking space about 100m far from the hotel. Also, the panoramic restaurant was closed.
The location of the hotel is perfect, all attractions are within reasonable distance. The price was favorable. The room was big and clean, the furniture maybe a bit old-fashioned, but fine for me. Room service worked well. The hotel staff was pleasant (especially the women at the reception, the men had problems with English). Internet connection was quite fine.
Unfortunately, I have to mention some negatives. There was an information leaflet waiting for me in the room, warning of a fine if I stole towels. That probably doesn't even deserve a comment and it's inappropriate. The AC was not working in my room, it was explained to me that there was probably some kind of repair going on. My room was located next to the elevator, which was quite noisy during operation, which disturbed my sleep. What I didn't like were the breakfasts. Above all, the system. Sometimes breakfast was served in the lobby bar, sometimes in the restaurant. Each is on a different floor and I only found the key to where breakfast would be this morning when I entered the bar where I was sent away (isn't it really possible to at least put a poster at the reception stating the todays location?). Since breakfast was in the lobby bar, I had to choose from 4 packages, each package contained about 6 items including espresso, fruit (sometimes I didn't get the fruit). When breakfast was in the restaurant, it was a buffet (probably when the hotel was more full). However, there was instant coffee here. If I wanted an espresso from the machine, the man behind the bar wanted extra money! This seems to me rather non-standard for a 4-star hotel, breakfast is included in the accommodation price and it is quite common that you are entitled to as much coffee as you drink, that is, in other hotels (even 3 stars). This really disappointed me. The breakfast staff and their language skills, that's a thing that should be improved. I mean, I'm Czech and I can also speak Russian, so I can understand when you speak to me in Bulgarian, but I experienced here a lady from the staff answering a Japanese couple in Bulgarian.
BTW The rude reactions from hotel staff on reviews here on google are also terrifying...
The location of the hotel is good, but the cleanliness of the rooms was moderate. There was no minibar and the fridge was broken which was commented in the reception as something normal.
The breakfast was poor but the view from the restaurant and the espresso were awesome.
For my next I wouldn't choose this hotel
Definitely not a 4 star hotel. Maybe 2 stars!
Pro:
- the view from the balcony
- the location of the hotel (central)
- pet friendly location. they let us stay with our dog for an amount of 15 leva per night.
Contra:
- the rooms are very old and need renovation. the pillows are of very poor quality and the mattresses are worn in the center (they have a concave shape :)) )
- the parking lot is not quite what we were hoping for. when I arrived they couldn't offer me a parking space, saying that the entire parking lot is occupied (their parking spaces are across the street from the hotel in the city's public parking lot. they say that they are their spaces, although in that area there are signs that say "1 leva per hour between 09:00 and 17:00");
- the staff speak English very bad, but we managed to understand each other;
- the breakfast was not too good. Poor quality of the food.
We booked a room for a couple with a baby, and when we asked for a crib for the baby we didn't get one because the employee didn't know where it was! The air conditioning didn’t work in the room and you cannot open a window because the street is very noisy. old hotel with the worst service in the world no one knows English here and we couldn’t park the car at the hotel’s parking, because they “don’t know “ if they have a free space
The spa and the swimming pool are not working, but on the phone they told us that they are open.
I did not feel safe in this hotel. I saw no Covid measures, the staff were not having mask or gloves, in the reception was just a plexyglass but they were not wearing mask, the room was not disinfected, in the elevator and inside the hotel …
Let’s start on a positive note by saying that the jacuzzi in the room was lovely, that the views from the balcony was gorgeous, and that the reception was very helpful.
Having said that, this hotel is way past its glory years. Let’s start with the room: the furniture is old, there was mold on the bathroom walls, there wasn’t even a kettle to make tea. The online advertisement for this hotel included airconditioning, however despite soaring temperatures outside the AC was set to 25c under the guise of “Spanish tourists finding it too cold when they come to the hotel”, as I was told. Ironically, not a single Spanish tourist was to be found during our stay. Also, rooms get humid quite easily.
Our booking included breakfast, which consisted of stale bread, old reheated sausages, eggs, and pastries, relatively decent fruit, diluted fruit juices, okay coffee and cheese. It was quite disappointing that a “four star hotel” had such bad, low quality breakfast items.
My advice would be to book a hotel elsewhere in time and actually get your money’s worth while spending time in Veliko Tărnovo. We booked for three nights because we expected better from a Meridian hotel.
I am very disappointed. There was no parking (we had to park in a paid parking 20min away…), the “spa”was not working, in the swimming pool the water was cold and in the shower in the room the water was cool - no hot water in the room. The hairdrier was not ok - I asked for a normal one-they dont have it….The breakfast was cold. There was also a huge spider in our room…. The remote control for the tv was not working as well. The price compared to what they offer is ridiculously high.
The only good thing about this place was the view.
